The Pirate’s Ruby

“His stomach lurched, and he quelled down all thoughts of retreating to the nearest and darkest alley. If he went through with this, he reminded himself, then he would have enough coin to buy a meal, perhaps even a warm bed for the night, or, if luck favoured him, enough to live comfortably for a week in the town’s least snobbish tavern.”

As a bard, it’s fair to say Holsley is out of practice, not that it matters anyway since his legs turn to jelly whenever he’s forced to face a crowd. He has no money, no home, and no hope. Things are about to get a whole lot worse, however, after he learns that his childhood friend, Roland Darrow, is going to be executed in ten days’ time. Suddenly, it’s a race to find a way to save his roguish friend before he’s swinging by a rope, but unknown to him Roland is keeping some pretty big secrets — ones worth dying for.

Inspired by a love of Dungeons and Dragons and other TTRPG roleplaying games, The Pirate’s Ruby is a light-hearted love letter to both adventure and fantasy, filled with references, fun characters, and outlandish scenarios that feel like they’re lifted straight out of the game. If you enjoy fantasy, adventure, or DnD, then chances are you will enjoy this too!
